Description
I heard a real commotion at the bottom of my dad’s garden. It was a a gathering of corvids. Two new jays had come to the woods, and the resident magpies weren’t happy. The crows and jackdaws came later to see what was going on. The sound of all of them calling and bickering was quite something!
Recently an oak had fallen amongst the line of very old oaks still standing. Jays and magpies are said to be the guardians of the oaks as they take the acorns and bury them to feast on some of them in the winter, while others are left to take root and grow into new oak trees.
So I think this was a calling, a calling for succession, the jays taking up residence, ousting the magpie, becoming the new guardians.
I also saw it as a warning and a call for my attention. Several days later my father died. Just like the birds showed me, it was a calling to inheritance.

The colour is blue black, some more blue than black, some more black than blue using a water washable printmaking ink.
Some have orange suns, Some are hand coloured using water based gouache paint.
The paper is off white/cream recycled UK made and acid free.
