I made this print after sketching the Nine Maidens stone circle at Belstone on Dartmoor (sometimes known as the seventeen brothers ) which still doesn’t make sense as there are over 17 stones … I can’t tell you how many there are though as every time I tried to count them I got confused as to where I started!
Legend has it that the maidens were dancing one Sunday on the moor and when the church bells struck 12 noon they were turned to stone, a punishment for dancing on the sabbath day.
But everyday at noon you can still see them dancing as the stones appear to shimmer and shake.
In my print the shadows of the stones become the dancers, still dancing the sabbath away into the night under the full moon.
The prints are part of a variable edition of 30 which means each one is different due to slight colour changes, a little patchiness and different paper . This allows me to experiment a bit while you have a unique print . I print the carved Lino using my feet (have a look at my Instagram page to see some videos) The image size is A3 ( 30cm x 42cm ) , with a clean border around it.
They are printed onto off white acid free vegan printmaking paper.
Prints will be printed to order and will take a couple of weeks to arrive as they will have to dry, although there’s always a chance I will have one ready to send. Contact me if you want to check first.
Your print will be posted rolled in recyclable glassine paper and packed in a cardboard postal tube and sent by Royal Mail.
